Benzodiazepines, also known as benzos, are a type of prescription sedative prescribed for anxiety, insomnia, and sometimes prevent epileptic seizures. Benzos are also improperly prescribed for chronic use, despite the high risk of addiction. Benzodiazepines depress the body’s central nervous system which produces a drowsy and calming effect. Common benzos include diazepam (Valium), clonazepam (Klonopin), lorazepam (Ativan), and alprazolam (Xanax). Benzodiazepines should be used as directed for people who suffer from an anxiety disorder and should not be combined with opioids. When stopping benzos, never should one do it cold turkey. It can produce severe and even life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. Benzo users can struggle to stop completely and may take weeks or months of tapering off their doses.
At Bayshore Retreat, clients will receive at a minimum of 2 individual and effective addiction treatment sessions a week with our licensed mental health counselor, group counseling sessions by various professionals every evening except for the clients rest day, and Life Skills counseling which covers multiple areas such as relationships, communication, irrational thinking, etc. We believe that drug addiction is a symptom of an underlying issue(s) and this is why we put a lot of effort in aiding our clients to identify and effectively deal with those issues.
In addition to the effective counseling a client receives, we take the holistic approach and incorporate a well rounded diet while also providing gym time for daily exercise. At Bayshore Retreat, we also use dry sauna and deep tissue massages to help speed the healing process and reduce the amount of toxins within the body. Bayshore Retreat is not a 12-step program but does value the philosophy behind it. We feel that clients should not pay for this while in treatment but look into it for more of an after care option.
When a client arrives, our medical director will address the physical with careful evaluation and order blood tests in order to determine what damage might exist due to drug abuse. In the event that a client may require a medical detox, we are able to make arrangements for the medical detox to be done at a medical site near Bayshore Retreat.
Bayshore Retreat is located on the Emerald Coast in the town of Destin, FL. This home like environment allows the limited number of clients to have their cell phones and laptops so that the client has the ability to talk to their family or take care of personal business during their stay with us. Last but not least, Bayshore Retreat is among the top 20% of addiction treatment centers as we have attained the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval. When a treatment facility attains the Gold Seal, it means that the facility demonstrates the highest commitment to quality and safety to patients, staff, and the community.
