What is the success rate of your program is a frequently asked question? It’s also a difficult one to answer honestly. Today was a classic example of how difficult it is to be honest about success. I spoke with a previous client whom I’ve spoken with several times during the past year since she was at Bayshore Retreat. Most of those times she was in desperate need as she had relapsed. We talked through the problems and understanding that it might happen, but she could do this. Today was different. She was calling for a friend. She finally got it right. Alcohol was her issue. Relapse to alcohol is generally the biggest problem for those who have been to a drug treatment center, if there is a relapse issue at all. It’s in their face everywhere… it’s easy and it’s legal. Any drug treatment center that boast high numbers of success from alcohol addiction are clearly not giving you the truth. Alcohol relapse is very high regardless of where one goes. Our 30+ hours of counseling and health regime is the best defense against relapse. Our exit plan/after care program prepares clients for the possibility, but at the end of the day they have to live their life and find their way through the problems. We’re only glad that they know we’re here to suggest and support them when and where possible. There’s no shame or guilt associated with a relapse, only encouraging words that remind them who they are and yes, it’s a stumble, but not a fall from grace. So you can imagine how rewarding it is to have clients trust us and to reach out to us to advise when they’re in the position to help others. That is success!
