Our non-12 step drug program is about health… physically and mentally. We don’t treat drug addiction with 12 step meetings or with more drugs like Suboxone and Methadone.
Our drug treatment center in beautiful Destin, Florida focuses on your physical well-being. Health is our first concern. We believe that a healthy body, mind and spirit are the best tools one can have to prevent relapse. We don’t buy into the concept of using other drugs, such as Suboxone and Methadone, to combat drug addiction. In most cases this only causes a different problem and/or addiction.
As one client stated, “I thought I could beat it with Suboxone. Only problem is I became addicted to it and would panic when I ran out. I really thought I needed it to function. Now I feel better than I’ve felt in years. Not just physically, but about myself”. Jess
Bayshore Retreat offers as new and different approach to alcohol and substance abuse treatment.
We provide real help with addiction by first addressing possible physical damage done by drugs and/or alcohol.
Soon after arriving at Bayshore Retreat you’ll meet with our medical director. He will discuss your medical history, perform a physical exam, and order tests from a local lab. The results from these tests will let you and us know where you are physically and what we, as a team, can do to make improvements.
Healing the body is an essential part of drug and alcohol treatment. It begins by eliminating the cravings.
Through light cardio workouts, sweat time in a dry sauna, deep tissue massages by licensed therapists, and weekly yoga classes, your body will begin to heal. Likewise, healthy meals are prepared daily by our on-site chef, who shops daily for the freshest ingredients. Our dietitian is there to advise with particular questions regarding nutrition and addiction. Finally meals are prepared to your particular taste and need. With only six clients at a time we can do this.
Healing the mind with Master’s level counseling.
As the body heals, we’ll also address the mental issue of addiction. Beliefs and myths will become clear. You will meet with our Licensed Mental Health Counselor to complete a Bio-Psychosocial Assessment. This allows the counselor to discover who you are and help you develop a plan to beat the addiction. Your plan may consist of the following:
- Relapse Prevention (a plan for sobriety)
- “BUDDING”- Building Up to Drinking and Drugging
- Anger Management
- Effective Communication Skills
- Relationships and family dynamics
- Honesty/Openness (with one’s self and others)
- Irrational Thinking
- Recovery-Planning: Why its necessary
- Compassionate Self-Care
- “PAWS” – Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome
- Effective Decision-Making
- Physically Healthy Lifestyle Choices
- Fiscal Responsibility
- Personal Hygiene and Upkeep of Possessions
This is another area where Bayshore Retreat differs from most drug and alcohol treatment centers. We know that by having your involvement in the “planning”, you will have a greater commitment in the “doing.” We recognize that every person is an individual and should be respected as such. At the same time ‘failing to plan’ is ‘planning to fail’. This is why we put so much into our drug and alcohol treatment in the form of true counseling.
We’ve discussed the body and the mind. What about the spirit? We’ve learned that as you improve one aspect of yourself, the other two also improve. We’re not affiliated with any particular religion. We allow you to find or improve your own spirituality. Each client will be allowed to attend the religious service of his/her choosing, if so desired. If you want to sit on the dock and meditate, that’s your right also. And if you are still searching, we will be more than happy to explore with you. For instance, yoga is a part of Bayshore’s relaxation and meditation techniques.
We’re restoring lives, relationships and hope. It’s proven time and again with only six clients at a time that “Quality beats Quantity”.
